3 Ways to Stand Out and Grow Your YouTube Channel ASAP

Struggling to grow your YouTube channel despite putting in the effort? You’re going to continue to waste your time if you don’t make your channel stand out.

But I’m not just talking about hopping on all the trends or being super clickbaity — no! You can actually make your channel stand out while staying true to your brand by effectively highlighting what you offer.

And I’m here to show you how to do that! In this post, you’ll see three different ways you can grow your YouTube channel as a small business (that are practical and effective!).

Grow Your YouTube Channel Tip #1: Avoid Low-Value Content

Yes, video quality is important, but the quality of the topic you talk about is even more important.

One of my mentors, Mariah Coz, talks about creating content for your “champagne” viewers, which is CRITICAL on YouTube. These are clients that are ready to buy from you. They’re your high-quality leads.

But your basic how-to’s and tutorials aren’t going to cut it if you want to reach them.

Sure, that content is great when you’re just starting on YouTube, but as you grow, and when you’re ready to reach the champagne clients, you have to get more strategic!

Why How-to Content Doesn’t Work

The most oversaturated places on YouTube are filled with low-level, beginner content. Think about topics like:

  • How to get your first 1,000 YouTube subscribers

  • Ways to save money

  • How to be a photographer

  • Healthy meal ideas

Search any of these topics, and you will find hundreds, if not THOUSANDS, of videos.

The problem is that these topics are SO broad that they won’t call out your “champagne” viewers.

The type of people searching for beginner or low-level content aren’t committed yet. They’re just thinking about the idea but aren’t ready to buy or work with you.

These are content ideas you want to avoid.

How to Create Niche Content That Attracts Your Ideal Audience

As a small channel, don’t try to talk to EVERYONE. You will NEVER stand out. That may be tough to hear, but it’s the truth.

You want to create niche content that is very specific to the audience you are trying to grow.

Instead of being general or going for the low-hanging fruit, try beefing up your topics. Instead of “Instagram Reel ideas,” try “Instagram Reel ideas for small business owners.” Instead of “Ways to save money,” try “Frugal living tips” or “Minimalist tips for saving money.”

I tell my clients to do this all the time, and it works. Really.

With one, she recently hit over a million views and gained 19,000 subscribers. Within a year, she had over 2.6 million views and 34,000 subscribers. Today, she has over 19 million views and more than 187,000 subscribers!

There was a lot of work that went into that, but getting specific played a HUGE role in it.

Grow Your YouTube Channel Tip #2: Get Clear on WHO Your Channel is for

You don’t just want specific topics. You also want to be crystal clear on who you’re talking to. Because, again, if you’re talking to everyone, you’re talking to no one.

If you’re a business coach, who do you serve? Small businesses? Women-owned businesses? Businesses in the finance industry? WHO are you for?

People want assurance that you not only know what you’re doing but have experience helping people like them with their problems!

That’s where niching comes in. If you haven’t done the work yet to figure out yours…stop what you’re doing right now and go figure that out.

It’s so important, not only for your videos but for every other piece of content you create. You NEED a clearly defined target audience.

Grow Your YouTube Channel Tip #3: Improve Your Packaging

No, no…I’m not talking about product packaging. I mean the quality of your thumbnails!

One of the quickest and easiest things you can do NOW to make your small YouTube channel stand out is to make it higher quality. Yes, the value you provide with your content is still important, but how you market it with your title and thumbnail is, too.

When I work with clients who have YouTube channels, the first thing I do is audit their channels. Nine times out of ten, the content is great, but the “package” could use some work. Once they change the thumbnails and titles of videos they’ve already published, they usually see improvement.

So, if you’re not sure what’s amiss with your channel, that may be something you need to adjust.

How to Audit Your Thumbnails for Better Results

If you think your “packaging” could be the problem, here’s how to audit your thumbnails to know for sure.

  1. Do you have more than four words in your text? Minimize it.

  2. Do you have bold, readable text? If not, change it.

  3. Are you repeating the title of your video on your thumbnail? Don’t.

  4. Are there a lot of “things” on your thumbnail that make it cluttered? Clean it up.

  5. Are you on the thumbnail with a high-quality photo? If not, replace it.

When you have the answers to these questions, you can know how to make improvements!

Something else going wrong with Your YouTube Channel? Let’s Get to The Bottom of it!

Ultimately, standing out on YouTube requires more than just posting content. It also takes posting the right content in the right way. But by getting specific about who you want to talk to and what you want to say and delivering it in a high-quality way, you can do SO MUCH to improve your channel.

But…what if you read this and think, “I kind of already have a handle on all this. I really wish I had something more in-depth because I still can’t figure out what’s going wrong with my channel.”
