How To Set Up Your Simplified Planner and PowerSheets!
Starting a new year is exciting! Okay and a little overwhelming. It's a whole year you're trying to work on, I get it! But let's be honest, we're all excited for NEW PLANNERS! This is the time of year where we get to pick up fresh, blank planners and get them all set up for a fresh, new year.
And in this video, I'm showing you exactly how I use my Simplified Planner and my PowerSheets to create a plan that is in alignment with my goals and helps me take intentional action.
Set Up the Simplified Planner
The most important thing to remember when setting up a planner is to find a system that works for you. There are a million different recommendations on how to best use a planner but the best system is the one that you'll use.
For example, I started this year color coding all of my tasks. That's right, I bought the colored pens, the colored stickers and flags and assigned a specific set of tasks to certain colors. And then I learned one major thing.
I don't have time for all that.
So I moved back to black ink and found that just focusing on creating a plan makes me more efficient than creating a pretty plan.
This is a huge lesson! While these planners are beautiful and we can feel fearful of "messing them up," it's important to just use them. Get messy. Do what works for you. Ignore the Pinterest boards of art pages if that's not your thing and do what works for you.
As you're setting up your planner, take time to go through the prep work. There's a Simplified Challenge in the Simplified Planner and I couldn't recommend it enough. This is also a great time to review your year, figure out what worked, what didn't work and how you're generally feeling about it all.
Set Up Your PowerSheets.
I've been using PowerSheets for the past four years and I love them so much. This is a great goal setting planner that helps you get intentional with your goals so that you're not working aimlessly on things that won't actually fulfill you.
When setting up your PowerSheets, it's important to keep a few things in mind.
Don't worry about making a mess. Yes, there are stickers and pretty pens and there are so many people on Instagram posting their beautiful pages. But for some of us, that's just not how we operate. I can tell you right now that I'm not a doodler!
Instead of worrying about making it pretty, remember that this is for you. You don't have to show anyone the inside of your PowerSheets so work on it JUST for you.
Another common mistake is overthinking your goals. Don't overthink it. Go with your heart and your end goals to go through your Powersheets. And while we're on that note, remember not to overcommit.
I know, I know. There are 10 spots for big goals in the PowerSheets book. But you don't have to fill them all up. Instead, focus on 5 big goals. I like to split this up between my personal life and my business. The biggest thing here is to do what feels right and now what others are telling you to do.
Sync Your Planners.
This is where the magic happens. I like to set aside days to actually work on the planner prep and this step is no exception. In order to make the two planners work for you, you have to sync them.
Start with your PowerSheets. You have goals written in them and you know you want to accomplish them and why. Now it's time to assign a deadline for the big goal. But we can't end there.
Instead, take that big goal and break it up into mini goals! For example, my goal might be to make half a million in my business this coming year. That's something that probably won't happen till the latter half of the year. So I can set that deadline. But then I can also set goals for each month.
How much money do I need to make each month to hit that big goal? How am I going to make that money?
So set deadlines for the mini goals that come from that exploration. And finally, plan to celebrate hitting those goals! I mean it! Plan a day IN YOUR PLANNER to celebrate your wins.
And remember, you don't have to accomplish everything. If you don't, it doesn't make you a failure. Reflect on why you didn't and move on.
