My EXACT Strategy for Planning YouTube Videos

If you're trying to grow on YouTube, being consistent is the best way to do that. But I don't mean that you need to be posting a new video multiple times a week. Instead, create just one video per week. If you're struggling to do that, chances are that you don't have an effective plan in place.

This week, we're digging into the plan that I use to stay consistent with my video content. Here's the thing- as a mom of two, I don't have a lot of extra time which means I need to plan the right way. Especially since I only have 2 days a month to film.

That said, it's not just my content that I'm responsible for. Through my agency, I manage 8 other YouTube channels for other business owners and we use this same plan to ensure that everything is posted consistently.

Do Your Research.

The first thing that you need to do is have ideas for your video content. But not just any ideas, you need good ideas. This is why research is vital. During this time, you're going to focus on researching your topics. You'll dig into things like tags, seo, titles, and thumbnail ideas.

But I want you to remember something. You don't want to waste hours researching tags. The YouTube algorithm has gotten smarter which means you're not going to grow your channel on tags alone. Instead, you need to focus on a few questions.

  • Are people searching for this topic?

  • Is it competitive?

If there are a lot of videos surrounding the same topic, you're going to want to really dig into how you can put your own spin on it. This is also the time that you'll dig into what direction you want to take the video.

Analyze Your Competitors.

Now I really don't love calling people in the industry you're in competitors. I've heard them referred to as niche neighbors and I like this a lot more. But in this step, you're going to dig into what your target audience wants.

What are they loving? What types of videos are they watching? What are they connecting with? This is when I'll start to take screenshots and gather data that I'll put in my project management system.

Analyze Your Content.

One of the best ways to ensure you're creating great content to is to analyze your previous content! Use your analytics to see what content is performing well, what videos had the best click through rate and audience retention? What videos didn't do well?

This data is all power to help you create great content!

Create Your Video Game Plan.

Once you've done all of that, you can create your game plan. This is sometimes referred to as a script but I don't love using that word because it creates some mindset blocks. With a script, you may feel as though you have to write word for word what you're going to say. You may read off the script and be so focused on that script that you sound robotic.

Not ideal.

Instead, we create a game plan! Not only will this help you know what to say, it's going to help you know how you want to edit, what you want your scene to look like and more!

So what happens after all of this? You start this process over on a new video! I like to do 3-4 at a time sot that on filming day, I have 3-4 videos I can record and use all my energy on the recording and not researching!

By implementing this plan, you're going to be on track to see more success from your YouTube Channel!
