The BEST Script Template For Your First YouTube Video
If you've been wondering what the best script template for YouTube is, you're not alone! It can feel a little scary when you're trying to put words together that will get people to watch your content, make you sound cool and even more importantly, inspire them to engage with your video! No one wants to post to crickets!
You don't have to wonder how to create a stellar YouTube script anymore because I'm breaking it all down step by step for you. We're going to dig into the exact formula I use for all of my videos. Let's dive in!
Before you start your script, you need to have a clear goal in mind for your video. This is a problem I see with a lot of videos that are lacking engagement. The video is trying to get the viewer to do too many things. Like subscribe, comment, sign up for an email list. This can cause viewer overwhelm.
Instead, choose one goal for each video and make that the focus for that video. This gives your audience a very clear direction and allows you to really focus on the meat of your content.
The Hook.
This is one of the most important parts of your script. Your hook is the first 5 to 10 seconds of the video that will help your viewer determine whether or not they want to continue watching. So this is not a time for you to keep your new viewer waiting for engagement! Avoid adding graphic intros or silent clips of you.
Jump right into talking to your audience and let them know WHY they should stick around. Address their pain point and let them know that you're about to relieve it. Pro Tip: If you can add the word "you" into your hook, you'll see higher retention!

Buffer Intro.
This part is 100% optional! In fact, recently, I've dropped my buffer/title intro and have seen an increase in my audience retention. So you can do what works for you. But this is a 5 second clip with your logo or an animation. Again, this is totally optional.
Your Quick Personal Intro.
Once you're at this point, you'll want to give your audience a quick introduction into who you are. Say your name and also share your value proposition!
This is about the point that people ask if they should ask for a subscribe. And if not now, when? One of the things I've learned is that people will subscribe if they actually enjoy your channel! So instead of asking for a subscribe, focus on creating valuable content your audience will want to watch.
Content.
This is it! The meat of your content! This is where you'll have some wiggle room. You can either script out this part word for word or you can have a simple bulleted list.
I like to script my hook word for word so that I can ensure that I'm saying exactly what I want to but when it comes to the meat of my content, I use bullet points. This allows me to focus on what I'm saying rather than trying to read exactly what I wrote!
This is also a time you'll want to throw some additional elements in to keep your viewer engaged. Ask for comments during certain points, add b roll or text overlays. The important thing to remember is to add something, whether it's a scene change or just text, every 10ish seconds.
Now here's one of the most important parts. As you're wrapping up the meat of your content, do NOT say anything indicating that you're ending. You want to keep people watching to the last 20 seconds which is your end screen.
Call to Action.
This is the end of your video. The last 20 seconds are where you'll direct your viewer to the next video so they can embark on that binge session that YouTube loves! And now you have a formula!
