What SHOULD You Say In Your First YouTube Video

If you're wondering what to say in your first YouTube video, you're not alone. Knowing what to say can feel like a huge hurdle and let's be honest... it can feel awkward those first few times. But we're going to talk about what to say in your first YouTube video so you can handle it like a pro!

When you think about what to say at the start of your YouTube Video, you might be feeling a little shy or unsure. And maybe you're considering starting with a simple "hey there." After this video, you're going to know how to deliver your video with ease and see results that matter!

I'm sharing my Video Game Plan with you today. This is the game plan I use for every single video that I put out and it's the plan that I share with my students and clients!

The first thing you really need to know is that this isn't a traditional script. One of the things I've noticed about scripting is that while it can ensure that you say everything you want to, it can make the delivery a little stuff. You become so focused on getting the script read correctly that you lack emotion.

So we took that element away. This is a game plan to help you stay on track, say what's most important, AND allows you to show some of your personality!

The Hook

Your hook is the first 3-5 seconds of your YouTube video. This is the period of time you have to really keep your viewer invested. They clicked your video with a goal in mind. It's what your title and thumbnail promised. So with your hook, you're going to make sure you deliver on that promise!

You want to intrigue your audience and pique their interest. This is one area I script so that I can really make sure that I'm letting my audience know what they're getting.

The Intro

This is where you want share who you are and what your channel is all about. Now this doesn't mean you need a long bio here. In fact, this section should be only 10-15 seconds at the max.

The goal is to share with someone brand new who you are and what you're about so that they can learn to trust you a bit more.

Now this is the time that people start to consider those animated intros or video bumpers. I strongly advise against using these as this becomes a hurdle for your audience.

The Content Points

This is the part that your audience came for. You want to deliver the value here. One of the best ways to do this is by breaking it down into points or steps.

But here's the secret. Don't bother scripting word for word here. Instead, create a list of bullet points and then speak on those points. This is your zone of genius. You know what you want to talk about, just follow those points.

The Call to Action

Here me out- this part is so important and it's one part that people fumble. That's your call to action at the end of your video. This is a key part to any video and you cannot forget it.

You've already got your viewer to the end of the video, they're obviously interested in what you have to offer. So you need to give them something to do at the end of the video!

This means you need ONE primary goal for your video. So determine what your goal for the video is. Is it to get subscribers? To get people on your mailing list? Choose one thing!
