Click Through Rate
If your channel isn’t growing, the first thing you need to look at is your click through rate. Here’s the thing. You can have perfect editing, perfect backgrounds and amazing content but if no one is clicking your videos, that means all your hard work is going to waste! Why? Because if people aren’t really clicking through your videos, that means that YouTube isn’t going to be showing them to people.
YouTube recommends having a clickthrough rate between 2% and 10% but this really varies from video to video. My recommendation is to see the average click-through rate for your last 8 videos and then compete with that number.
You’re going to do this with an excellent title and thumbnail. Want some thumbnail tips? Lets’ break it down.
Do Not Repeat the Title on the Thumbnail
Put Your Face on the Thumbnail
Zoom Out to Preview the Thumbnail
Keep Your Thumbnail Simple
Use Consistent Branding
Audience Retention
Every single video you put out is going to give you an audience retention graph. This means you need to dig into your audience retention over the last 6 videos to see what keeps people watching and what makes people click away.
Audience retention is one of those things that you really want to focus on because you want people to stick around for more than half of your video. That watch time signals to YouTube that they should be showing your video to others!
Update Your Vibe
Now I’ll admit that I wasn’t a “vibe” person before but after seeing others talking about it, I get it now. The truth is that you’re trying to convey an emotion or an atmosphere in your brand and you want that to be authentic. This means learning to embrace yourself and your own personality.
I’ll admit, this is something I struggled with because my background was very stiff and professional but I’m learning how to embrace that fun side of myself and be myself on camera!
Systems and Tools
Systems and tools can help you grow, believe it or not. One fo the things that you can do is get someone to help you out to take things off your plate so you can focus on creating amazing content. This doesn’t mean you need a full time assistant, you can start with someone just helping a few hours a month. You wouldn’t believe how much that can help!
Tools are another important part of helping grow because it can take time consuming tasks and make them easier! Maybe this means investing in Canva so that you can make graphics more easily… maybe it means using TubeBuddy to help you make the most of keywords! Whatever it is you need to take off your plate or make easier, there is help out there!
Business Model
If you’re feeling like growth is slow, it might be time to think about a business model. Most of my clients are not in the business of being a YouTuber but instead are using YouTube as a visibility tool to drive potential leads to their business!
In fact, most of my clients are making at least half a million each year and it isn’t from AdSense and it’s not fro having a huge channel. See, you might not actually need to be chasing views and subscribers… instead you might need to be creating the right content!
